You found one! You actually found one! Wow! A non-Baptist church in Houston. Imagine that. :-D

I actually ran into far more Methodists and Methodist Churches (and Episcopalians and their churches) than I did Baptists.

I just figured Catholics would be everywhere, even in the South. I had no problems in Jacksonville (Baptist-central) and Dallas (Methodist-central).

I tend to pick on Baptists because they, in turn, tend to be fundamentalist / irrational in their beliefs. They are the only ones I can recall spouting off that the Bible is literally true in all respects, for example.

I didn't realize you were "picking on" Baptists. lol

In my experience, Southern Baptists are very conservative and literal. American Baptists (I sang in an American Baptist church for two years) are neither so conservative or literal-minded.

The really ultra-fundamentalist churches tend to be the small, local offshoots. They are more cult-like than any broadly-organized church I have ever seen. I have friends that belong to such churches, who do claim to believe every word in the Bible literally (you should see them try to dance around the inconsistencies and contradictions!) and refuse to acknowledge that there can be Christians who hold a differing set of beliefs.

I have attended only a few Baptist services, partly because of my experience at the Ancon Baptist Church, located below the Admin Building. They must have been a small, local offshoot. :-D But I've had similar experiences with Baptists elsewhere.

Most Baptists are nice, friendly people. The ones in Ancon invited me to return to hear more of their services. I wonder if they would have been so free to invite me if they had been aware of my tolerance for Native Americans, Jews, Wiccans, Moslems, atheists, Hindus and others.

Again, you're not making the distinction between Southern Baptists and American Baptists, who more closely resemble Methodists.
