To follow up on this post, right now I'm leaning towards Appetite for Destruction, Automatic for the People, and the second Heart Greatest Hits album. It's hard, though, to leave off the Benatar, the Prince, the other Heart Greatest Hits, the Marley, the Jimmy Cliff (which nobody mentioned), and the Sade. Of course, if I could sucker someone into doing the 12-for-the-price-of-1 deal through me, I could get another 5 free CDs, which would help make my decision just a little easier. ;)

Jimmy Cliff

I just saw him live on tuesday. Unbelievable. the man at age 50 something has more energy than I do. which is kind of sad.

I own the harder they come but I have never seen the deluxe edition. I would recommend it heavily... it was the beginning of the reggae invasion. Its the sound track to a movie as well... the movie was pretty decent as well.

Although I am a huge marley fan I cannot recomend legend. Sure, if you are only going to own one Marley album that one will do nicely (but Confrontation is probably his best album). Personally I dont think there is one album that truly does his work justice.

That said, the Songs of Freedom 4 disk compelation does a pretty good job. that set is a worthy investment.

Re: Jimmy Cliff
How can Jimmy Cliff be only 50? Didn't he start his career in the early 60s? I suspect he's at least 60 years old!

Re: Jimmy Cliff

I had the exact same conversation while waiting for him to take the stage

according to his official web site (http://www.jimmycliffonline.com/) he was born April 1st 1948... which would make him nearly 57.

close to 60... but not quite there... I was surprised too.

I can only assume he was very young when he started his career... not that weird for a kid from Jamaica. apparently he moved to kingston at the age of 14 to pursue his career.

57 or not... heck of a lot of energy. Great showman.
