The internet used to be fun. It holds so much potential. I am becoming turned off to the internet, though, which is a real shame. All it seems to be now is a source of viruses and worms, hoaxes, junk mail, pop-ups, rampant commercialism.... Today alone I must have received 20-30 e-mails trying to get me to open a virus by telling me that the "details" are in the attachment.

What will it take to reclaim the internet?

Running Mozilla Firebird to block popups and flashy ads (right-click on an ad image and select "Block All Images From This Server" and Mozilla Thunderbird for Mail. I haven't seen pop-ups, pop-unders and fewer and fewer banner-ads in months.

Ugh!
I just received 51 (!!!) e-mails in the past 4 hours...almost all of them asking me to "open the attached file for details." Like I'm that stupid....

Re: Ugh!
You may know better, but see, most working schmoes fall for it, because that IS how they send emails to each other. If a message in your work in-box shows up claiming that the details are in the attachment, often they are.
*sigh*
Spammers are getting both smarter and stupider as life goes on.
