Fuckity-fuck!

I glanced at my watch. The day read "3." I glanced at the appointment reminder on my desk. "Tue. Oct 4 - 10 am." Wait, that doesn't seem right. Today is Tuesday. I glanced again at my watch: "3"! And I knew my watch must be wrong, because I've known for months that the long-awaited Chargers-Pats game was October 2, and so two days later … effin' ay! &*%$#@!!! non-digital watches, that don't understand that some months don't have 31 days! So, I missed my 10 o'clock appointment this morning. <sigh>

The time to have looked at your watch was on Saturday, when you might (or might not) have realized that it was unlikely to be September 31.

I've had watches like this since forever (I don't like digital watches, for reasons I can't explain), and I usually remember to reset them after short months. But I do remember sitting in the office of a colleague in early-to-mid-March of 1989 or '90, and both of us realizing at about the same time that we had forgotten to correct the date on our non-digital watches.
