I'm amused. While so many on my friends list this time of year are obsessing about what to wear for Halloween, I'm obsessing about what to read.

I thought about giving Halldór Laxness a go, to be topical, but then I might still be reading Laxness long after we've stopped talking about Iceland's bankruptcy. Right now I'm leaning towards Malcolm Lowry and H.P. Lovecraft. I suppose I'd better finish a couple of the other books I've started first, though.

Books
I've been reading a lot more since receiving my Kindle. I'm currently working my way through "Eldest", the second book in a fantasy trilogy. I'm looking forward to finishing Darwin's "Voyage of the Beagle" that I started decades ago, misplacing the book when about two-thirds of the way through. I have a backlog of a thousand books or so, most free or in very cheap collections. The Kindle looks, reads and carries like a book, so is mostly invisible to others when I use it. When I hear of a new book that might interest me, for example a book on writing techniques while I'm in my writing class, I can check it out, perhaps buy it, and get it delivered electronically while in class with nobody being aware of what has transpired. I have several writing books I got that way.

I'm reading Jean Smith's biography of FDR, called, oddly enough, FDR. Very good.

Did the plug work, by the way?
