Each of the clues below suggests the name of a famous character in opera. Can you figure out which one? (Hint: the clues have nothing to do with the opera the characters are from, so if you know very little about opera it won't matter.)

Lupine Dodge truck

Giddy-up ba-doom boppa-doom boppa mow mow

Spanish lion prays

The love interest of a banjo-playing Alabaman

Greeting from a Hansen's sufferer

One Mediterranean fruit per line of trees

Roy's partner

Caribbean music played by your nethermost digits

Point signifying a northern Italian city on a map

Web-searchable red muppet

I guess that's outside my experience.

You have grotesquely underestimated the extent of operatic ignorance.

The only one I am embarassed about is figaro - but after 5 consecutive defeats (and no, I don't count Elvira or Suzannah as victories, since I hadn't the faintest idea that either of these were opera characters), it was a bit tough to keep my chin up.

At least your answers were amusing (alta the grouch)! :)

... but I had to reveal that I don't even know which muppet is the red one!

(I know a lot more of these than I thought I would -

Kermit=Green
Piggy=Pink
Cookie Monster=Blue
Big Bird=Yellow

Was it so bad to guess that The Grouch was red?)

I just think there should be an opera character named Alta the Grouch! <grin>

Guglielmo (Google-y Elmo)

I might be about to work with a fellow my boss met at a conference, whose name he can't remember. "Googly aim o?" "Jewel iami"?

I can't help but wonder if my new mixed-name contact mightn't have the same name as the opera character. Is it a common name in Italian families?

I'm not sure what Italian names are considered common. I've never been to Italy. ;) However, I'm sure Guglielmo is fairly common. I think it's the equivalent of our William. Maybe the fellow's name is Giuliano?
