It occurred to me this morning in the shower (I'm convinced all the world's great ideas happen in the shower or in bed just before you fall asleep!) that I am not maximizing my earning potential as a singer. I know many people who are getting married or know people who are getting married or dying. I am available to sing weddings and funerals. I'm just not marketing myself. So, pass the word: I sing weddings and funerals and any other occasions that could use a singer. I'm a decent baritone, and my rates are reasonable.

Are you sure?

I mean, really?

Maybe I have talked to too many ministers to ever want to be near doing anything for a wedding professionally.

If you'd rather, you could pay my fee just to hear me sing and skip the whole wedding nonsense. <wink>

(Of course, that gets devalued every time I invite people to hear me sing for free, I suppose.)

I've sung at one wedding and one wedding reception. Sure, the family and planners are all stressed out and hectic. But I am professional enough to deal with that. ;) And I do need the money!

When I used to do weddings as a cellist, I found it useful to put up flyers, put out cheap/free classified ads, and have a profile on websites like gigmasters. I've never actually done a friend's wedding, but I've done quite a few other peoples' at various times. You're getting in a bit late in this wedding season, though. The getting is really good from April-July, especially in the Boston and Southern Maine area.

And, hey, what could be better than getting paid to go to a wedding?
