The program, at Barbican Hall, consists of Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture, Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 (which has the most beautiful second movement!), and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8. I've never heard of the violinist, Nikolaj Znaider, but the conductor is Mstislav Rostropovich, one of the great cellists of all time and a fantastic conductor, especially of the Russian/Soviet repertoire.
I've just paid for the two tickets (only £20 each, for center balcony!), and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this performance!!!
