I had a doctor's appointment today at 4. I got there at 3:55 and waited until 5, at which point the doctor emerged and, surprised to see me, asked if I had not received his messages. In all fairness to him, he did call and leave two voicemail messages. However, the first one was left at 2:30, only an hour and a half before the appointment. Seeing as how I often don't get my voicemail messages for hours or days, that wasn't a very effective way to reach me. I am a geek; I'm constantly checking my e-mail. Except for the rare times when I am having troubles with my server, e-mail is the only reliable way to reach me. Now I get to wait two weeks for the rescheduled appointment...wonderful.
