After mass I went down the street to fj and pinkfish's place for the tail end of their party. I got to see the aforementioned hosts as well as rsc, jwg, jss1113, and nooks, who I had just met. I was hoping to see danger_chick, especially since I wasn't able to attend her party the day before, but -- alas! -- she'd already left by the time I got there. I hung out there for about an hour and a half before I left to meet up with Rob.
It was good to see Rob. We went to high school in San Diego together. He then attended BU Law during my two years in Easthampton and my first year in Boston. He comes back to Boston about twice a year for hockey games, and he joins me and my Chargers Board friends at our annual Chargers road trip. I almost flew out to Korea to visit when he was stationed there. (He is an officer for the JAG in the Air Force, currently stationed in Mississippi.) He's the only friend from high school that I keep in touch with regularly.
When we were in Houston he confided that he had bought a ring for his girlfriend but hadn't worked up the nerve to pop the question yet. Today I found out he popped the question and received a positive reply. The wedding is going to be in San Diego on June 11. He told me that he and Pam want me to sing at their wedding.
I am guilty of counting my chickens before they hatch. I stand to win $600 if the Chargers advance to the Super Bowl and an additional $1250 if they win it, this off a $20 initial investment. I've been thinking of what to do with the money, as the Chargers actually stand a pretty decent chance of accomplishing both this year, surprisingly. Originally I had planned to pay off my credit card debt with my winnings. Then I thought maybe I would spend the few hundred required to attend the game if the Chargers travel to New England for a playoff game. However, now I'm thinking I'd better save that money to fly back to the States for Rob's wedding. I would be honored to attend and sing at the ceremony. Of course, I am so getting ahead of myself here.
I'm glad he has found someone with whom he has so much in common. He is a good guy, and I am happy for him.
