This morning I read Chapter One of American Gods. It quite literally sucks you in!

I auditioned. As expected, I got the part. I was originally told there would be $100 compensation. Now I am told only the principals, not the covers, get compensation. I am wondering if I should still do it. It's good experience, but it would require learning a buttload of music in less than a month and driving to Stoughton once or twice a week. I should, at the very least, insist that they provide me a score free of charge.

Every so often a piece of music works its way into my head that reflects my mood perfectly. Right now that piece is "Una furtiva lagrima" from Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore. Listen to Placido Domingo sing it here.

Yeah, still do it. Ask that they provide a score free of charge.

Here's the e-mail I sent the producer. I hope it works.

Dear Ms. B...:

I was surprised to learn today that there is no compensation for covering Pandolfe in Cendrillon. Based on our conversation and the e-mail from ESP copied below, I was led to believe that there would be some compensation. I can understand if Operatunity's budget does not allow equal compensation to the covers as to the principals. Nonetheless, covering Pandolfe will involve learning a substantial amount of music in a very short time, which will require a significant commitment from me. Additionally, I am driving all the way from Medford, which adds an additional 45 minutes time commitment for travel on either end, plus the cost of gas. Thus, I don't feel I am out of line in asking that Operatunity provide me with a Cendrillon score free of charge as a very minimum of compensation. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you.
