Feb. 14th, 2005

Today is the day that single people traditionally loathe. I had a brilliant idea to make the day less loathsome. Alas, though, it is too transparent (and I am too chickenshit, which in this case is probably a good thing) for me to attempt to implement.

And what was that idea? Drinking a shot for every regret you had? Asking out anyone who looked single? Come on, I'm looking for ideas here!

Curiously,

Find someone who is equally single and pretend to be a couple for the day. Take her to a romantic dinner, give her a box of chocolates or some flowers, perhaps go for a moonlit walk (if it weren't snowing tonight) or watch a movie and cuddle, give each other a goodnight kiss as you leave...and then the following day it's back to business as usual, no expectations or commitments or anything. Just one evening of living a little fantasy, no strings attached.

But, like I said, it's very transparent, and I don't think there are too many people out there who would go for such a thing.

I hate to sound cynical, especially on Valentine's Day. ;) But I think somebody could really make a mint off of this idea. I'm sure there are plenty of single people who'd like to do dinner, chocolates, flowers, and a movie tonight either because they felt like they had to or simply because it'd be fun. And you wouldn't even have to pair people up all that well since they wouldn't be expecting anything after tonight.

Does it make me a bad person if my first reaction to your honest entry on Valentine's Day is to cash in on the lonely singles? Or is it just a sign that I win in the jaded cynicism department?

Opportunisticly,
Hyoun

No worse than me, who initially thought of the idea as a way to get an evening of romance and cuddling from Ilana.

Gah.

That sounds hideous.

I'm sorry. Your reaction made me laugh. ;) Of course, most people (I think) would find it hideous. That's why I initially didn't divulge what it was and why I wouldn't attempt to implement it. It's just one of many ideas, most quite crazy, that flit through my head all the time.

Like moving to London?

What's crazy about moving to London? Few things make more sense right now.

You could do what we do, and ignore it completely.

Well, of course, that's what will end up happening. ;)

Some variation of the Smith tradition: single lesbian soft pr0n and lingerie party?

A variation of that would be far more fun and brilliant than anything I could conceive! :)

There is also the Wesleyan tradition of tequila and pr0n.

The holiday would have remained unimportant to me if I hadn't met your mother on it 34 years ago.
