I can't blame my yeasties for this....

I used to get a bottle of wine from my boss for special occasions, but ever since he found out I like single malt Scotch, that's what he has given me.  I do like single malt Scotch; the problem is, I really don't drink all that much.  I have several bottles accumulating in the dining room hutch:  2 bottles of Macallan, 2 bottles of Glenlivet, 1 bottle of Glen Garioch, 1 bottle of Lagavulin, and 1 bottle of Balvenie.  (I had two bottles of Balvenie, but I gave one away.)  All of these were gifts.

I like all of these except the Balvenie.  It is too young and has a very harsh flavor.  Thus, I did the unthinkable.  I used a single malt Scotch as a cooking wine today.  I was cooking steak and thought the Balvenie would provide a nice flavor.  And then -- as if that wasn't enough -- I used the Balvenie to make a whiskey and coke.  I know, I can hardly believe it myself!

Well, I say a whiskey and coke, but I lie.  I thought my first attempt had too much Scotch, so I chugged it and mixed another drink.  This time I only used a third whiskey and two-thirds coke.

If I had thought ahead, I would have done this before my softball game tonight.  At least then I would have had an excuse.  It would somehow be more comforting to claim that I was drunk than to admit that I simply suck.

(For AbbyNormal:  Hmmm...I wonder if I'm single....)

One Year

A year ago today I walked into a clinic wearing glasses.  It was the last time I would ever wear corrective lenses.

I returned there again today for a follow-up appointment.  Everything is in good working order.  So much so that I won't have to return to the clinic again for another year.

And what did this life-altering event cost me?  All I had to do was design a website.  I'll be forever grateful for that.
