Attack of the Killer Chihuahua!

(no subject)

I finally got "injured" in rugby last night. It was bound to happen at some point.

I have not gotten a lot of sleep this past week, so my stamina was flagging as we ran and ran. I dug down deeper, however, and made sure I kept up with the group.

After running and exercises, we did a tackling and ball-possession drill. Two offensive players versus three defensive players, with two more offensive players running in support if the first two failed to score. The first two players were to try to run and pass with the ball to get by the defense. If the ball carrier got tackled, the other guy would form a ruck around him. Then the two support players would run up, one would get the ball out and pass it to the other. I was carrying the ball into a tackle. The tacklers knee smashed into my left quad, compressing it against the bone. I limped off and held myself out of drills for a few minutes.

Later, we did another drill that simulated a scrimmage, except that everything was in close quarters. I was following in support of one of my teammates. When he got tackled, I rucked over him. On the ground I started to fall to the left and -- BOOM! -- someone's leg nailed me in the head. My head and neck whipped sideways hard to the right. I thought for sure I'd be on the ground for several minutes, but fortunately I was able to shake it off and get right back up.

Driving to K's place and then later home was painful. It was hard flexing my leg, and pushing the clutch in was a chore. K asked me if I wanted to ice it down. I declined, but, doctor that she is, she insisted and wrapped some ice in a towel for me. Later I got a brief headache that lasted about 10 seconds. Again, K went into doctor mode, asking if my vision was blurry and other stuff. The headache reappeared a few minutes later, but I just took three Aleve and that took care of that.

The quad is a lot better today. It still is extremely tender, and flexing my leg is irritating, but that's all. And I don't have any headaches or even a stiff neck, so that's a relief.
