Well, I'm off to Philadelphia for a rugby weekend. We leave in a van tonight, sleep at a teammate's parents' house, play tomorrow afternoon, spend the rest of the afternoon and night doing what rugby players do best (drink), and return Sunday morning. I'll most likely be playing on the A side against a very good team, but surviving the game right now seems less of a concern than surviving the weekend with a bunch of unruly, drunk ruggers. It should be interesting!

She seemed unaware of the physical damage you were risking. What she was upset about was the money you were likely to spend and, in particular, that you might spend more than your share. She vociferously opined that the money should have been saved to help prolong your existance in London.
Tough. I have a right to live a little.
As for the money, the club paid for the trip. I was asked to contribute $20 towards the van. The $20 were not collected over the weekend and, since I did the bulk of the driving, I have a feeling they won't hunt me down for it. I spent $20 on the pub crawl ($20 for a t-shirt and a free drink at each of 6 pubs), and that was far more economical than if I had gone drinking on my own. For road games, the home team always hosts a drink-up after the games; usually that means a free hour of beer and free buffet food, but this time it was free drinks (our choice) and a buck a burger or dog. I had 3 burgers and 2 hot dogs and only spent $4 since they didn't charge me for the last burger. The only money I spent all weekend was the $4 for dinner, the $20 for the pub crawl, and a few snacks on the road. Gas, van, and 1 night hotel (we spent the first night at a player's parents' house) were covered by the club. This weekend was cheaper than most of my weekends.
Your weekend was probably cheaper than most of your evenings. The important thing to me, though, is that you seem to have enjoyed yourself.
