Any mechanics out there?

On my way back from Newport on Saturday, I had a small problem with my truck. As I pulled into a rest stop, my clutch suddenly lost pressure. I wasn't able to shift and had to coast into a parking spot in overdrive. The clutch was out for several minutes before it magically repressurized, allowing me to shift again.

I took the truck to a mechanic yesterday, and he said I have a leaking slave cylinder inside the transmission. He says I will have to replace the clutch as a result of doing the work on the transmission. The clutch is not very old, perhaps 2 years, and I am reluctant to replace it again when it's not the problem. Does taking the transmission apart to fix the slave cylinder really damage the clutch, or am I being bamboozled?
