This is the first LiveJournal post I've made from my very own laptop since April. Yay!!!

A couple of people have commented in the past few days that I seem really happy. I suppose I am. I mean, the weather today was sunny — cold as hell, but beautiful and sunny. I just got done with a highly successful run as the star of a great play with one of the most fabulous cast and crews I've ever worked with. I've made several new friends through theater in the past few months. I no longer work full-time at the Pulmonary Center. I feel like I'm finally moving towards something rather than still stuck in my 7-year rut. Life is good!

Not that it's all peachy keen. I haven't been getting enough sleep. My finances are shit. My diet and exercise regimen are even worse. I'm not getting as much done as I hoped. But I'm moving in the right general direction.

And I have my laptop back. They reinstalled my OS (with my consent), so some of my applications got blown away. The only ones I won't be able to replace are Adobe Illustrator and Oracle, neither one of which I ever use. I have two quibbles: the driver that controls the scroll button functions differently than it used to, and the "international time zones map" I was using for a background is gone, but those are such minor things that I'll just force myself to get used to them. I'm just thrilled to have my own laptop back, with all my contacts and data and tools and features. Yay!!!

Mind Extension
A computer becomes an extension of your mind and personality.

None of my computers work well. The XP is a constant target for malware. The Linux box ... well, I'm not very happy with any current release of Linux, partly because they all do things the way Windows does, making decisions for me or overriding decisions I have made. I'm a computer control freak and won't be happy unless I'm in control.
