But where's my Tippi Hedren?

I was sitting in the garden eating a salad and reading when an English robin alighted on the chair less than an arm's length from me. "Well, hello there, little fellah," said I.

The little bird, about 4 inches in length, stood there, with his head cocked to one side, studying me. Then he hopped onto the table, less than a foot away from my hand. What a bold little bird, I thought, to come so close to a human.

But I didn't know the half of it. Suddenly, the robin took wing and flew right at me! My reflexes took over and jerked my book six inches to the right. The robin flew into the back of the book, bounced tumbling back onto the table, and then flew off to the nearby fence. It was like something out of The Birds!

I realized almost right away that the robin wasn't after me; he was after my salad. And who can blame him: I make delicious salads. The poor bugger was hungry. I mentioned this to Robert, one of my housemates, who walked into the garden a moment later, and in a few minutes there was a small dish of müeslix set out, for which our little Robin seemed most appreciative.
