derspatchel and jimmystagger, I've decided to make a little compilation myself of some of my favorites. Enjoy!(1) Ruben Blades – Caminando. My favorite salsero uses walking as a metaphor for life.
(2) Ruben Blades – Pedro Navaja. The title translates as "Peter Switchblade." This is the Latino "Mack the Knife" and one of Blades' biggest hits.
(3) Ruben Blades – Patria. One of the best expressions of the real meaning of patriotism ever composed, set to images from Panamá.
(4) John Denver – Poems, Prayers, and Promises. My other favorite non-classical musician. My favorite John Denver song. No video, alas; just the song.
(5) Placido Domingo. My favorite opera singer growing up sings a decidedly non-operatic song.
(6) Sam Ramey – Toreador Song. This will be me one day! (Except he's a bass-baritone and I'm a lyric baritone. I don't know why he's singing this aria.)
(7) Fritz Wunderlich – Dies Bildnis. One of the most beautiful voices ever to live, singing an aria from The Magic Flute, recorded shortly before he died.
(8) Sherrill Milnes – Eri Tu. Perhaps the greatest baritone of all time sings this beautiful Verdi aria.
(9) Sherrill Milnes – Si Puo. Here he is again in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci.
(10) Evelyn Pear & Thomas Stewart – La ci darem la mano. Another great baritone, singing one of my favorite duets with his wife.
