I got these questions from malte. Now, I owe a couple of you questions, and a couple of you owe me questions. Without further ado...

1. The word sobatero came to me in a dream a couple of months back. An Argentinian friend claims it means something smutty in Central American dialect, but I think he may be having me on. What's your opinion? Feel free to make up an answer if the truth seems boring.

I have never heard the word sobatero. It may not exist. However, sobar is the verb "to stroke, caress, fondle, etc." Hence, a sobatero could be a fondler. Perhaps it is slang in some Latin American country for wanker.

2. A trick of mine from last year turned out to be a singer. While I was visiting (and I wasn't there for very long) he consumed and gargled large quantities of ginger, which he claimed was good for his voice. Do you think he was onto something?

Absolutely. Ginger has curative properties. I don't recall if I've ever gargled ginger. I may have, but I do drink ginger tea, especially if I have a cold.

3. With your webdesign hat on, what are the best and worst things about the design of this site, on a cursory glance?

Best thing: the quality of information available and the fact that one has the option of reading the site in English and not only Swedish.

Worst thing: the site's lay-out. The pages are too cluttered, with not enough white space. Important elements (foremost, the navigation bar) do not stand out. There is no design consistency within individual pages and from one page to another within the site. (This site looks much better in lynx than it does in a GUI browser.)

4. Who's the scariest, fj, bitty, or slinkr? Motivate your answer in such a way that they'll think you're the scary one.

Are you trying to get me in trouble? <grin> They already know I'm the scary one!

Hmmm...okay. fj has a bright red streak up above. bitty has a bright red streak down below. And slinkr has a purple streak running through her. Normally, I would consider the purple streak to be the scariest, but I have the same purple streak running through me, and it doesn't scare me. Thus, I have to choose between fj and bitty's red streaks. I've never had a red streak up above, but I've had a blue streak. I think streaks up above are kind of cool, not scary at all. I once had a red streak down below, though, and I was very scared. And the subsequent visit to the urologist still sends shivers down my spine. Therefore, I have to say that bitty is the scariest of the three.

5. Which ocean is yours, and why?

The Pacific. I have a significant investment in the Pacific. ;) I grew up on the Pacific side of Panamá. I lived in Southern California for three years. I now live off of the Atlantic Ocean here in Boston, but it's not the same. I love oceans, regardless. But different oceans have different characteristics. The Atlantic is pettier, fussier, more temperamental. The Pacific is grander, more majestic, more powerful, more inviting. Granted, I have seen the Pacific from both sides and from the middle, whereas I have only seen one side of the Atlantic and have yet to meet the other oceans.

Y'all know the drill. If you want me to interview you, let me know and I'll ask you five questions. If you want to interview me, ask me five questions. (malte, do you want 5 questions from me?)

I'll raincheck you on the questions if I may... But thank you for the excellent answers, especially to 1 (talk about cool!) and 3 (I'll have to think of some ways of implementing your suggestions. The clutter and inconsistency are things I'd like to have done more to ameliorate, but university departments being what they are, ...).

So this finally explains why you qualify your 'scary' with 'big' and 'lesbian'...
