Is there nothing that can be done about Viruses, Spam, Adware, Spyware, and other attacks on one's system???

Yes, I know I can set up spam filters, anti-virus software, system patches, etc. They aren't 100% foolproof.

I have not been infected by Sasser. I patch my system and update my virus definitions regularly. I was protected. Several of my co-workers weren't.

But I get plagued by hundreds of spam e-mails daily. And I currently have some spyware on my system that neither Ad-Aware or SpyBot can detect.

I hate the fact that I waste so much of my computer time each day deleting spam, scanning my system, blocking pop-ups, taking prophylactic measure against worms and other viruses.

I don't give a shit about someone's supposed right to advertise. I have a right to privacy. And I consider every spam, virus, and spyware an invasion of my privacy.

The government needs to step up to the plate and pass legislation that will hit these attackers hard. I'm talking jail time and steep, punitive fines, no negligible pansy-assed slaps on the wrist. Otherwise, I don't see how the internet will ever be manageable.

U.S. legislation with jail time won't stop spam from outside of this country.

I recently saw this:

It's a Web browser specifically designed for porn surfing, but it looks like it helps with any sorts of bad stuff you might get from Web sites.

Sounds great...but the spy software I can't seem to get rid of is on my work computer. I may dislike my job, but not enough to surf porn from work! <grin>

I may check out the browser anyway. Thanks. ;)

The browser was designed with porn-surfing in mind; you are not required to surf porn with it. I don't see why you couldn't use it at work (as long as work doesn't mind you installing things in general).

I know. I was just pointing out that the bugs I've contracted weren't the result of porn surfing. ;)
